Sooner or later, it happens to everyone, yet few of us are prepared for it. The impending passing of a friend, colleague, or family member is bound to raise many questions. The subject of palliative or hospice care is bound to come up. Here, Medi-Plex Hospice attempts to answer the most frequently asked questions about hospice care and clear up some common misconceptions about end-of-life care. If we didn't answer your questions, or you would like to arrange hospice care for a loved one, call us in St. Louis, MO.
If you're under the impression that palliative and hospice care are one and the same, that's not the case. Hospice care is for patients who are diagnosed as terminally ill, or whose death is expected within six months' time. Care may be performed at home or wherever the patience calls home (IE. skilled nurse facility assisted living). Palliative care is more focused on keeping a patient comfortable, typically as a complement to curative treatment protocol, provided in the clinical setting. Palliative care may be administered to terminal and non-terminal patients. Medi-plex Hospice is qualified to perform both palliative and hospice care.
Not necessarily. Hospice care is about helping terminally ill people make the most of the time they have left. The sooner they arrange for hospice care, the more time our staff has to get to know them, their family and friends, and the things they enjoy doing. Hospice care can be provided for an unlimited number of days, months or years depending on the illness. Call us in St. Louis Metropolitan area, to discuss your situation.
